How to access the HPC¶
1. Request your account¶
All activity on the cluster is done with your CEDIA user account. Request it from the portal, with the information you will be asked for:
Once your account is approved you get access to the visual portal, the SSH login and the cluster's services. If you belong to a CEDIA member institution, mention your institution in the request.
2. Access from your browser (nothing to install)¶
The access portal (Open OnDemand) signs in with your CEDIA account and gives you graphical applications running on the cluster:
| Application | Typical use |
|---|---|
| JupyterLab | Python/R notebooks with CPU or GPU |
| RStudio | Statistical analysis |
| QGIS | Geographic information systems |
| Remote desktop (GPU) | Graphical software with acceleration |
Portal sessions automatically use the cluster's dedicated partition: you don't need to learn SLURM to start working.
3. Access via SSH (command line)¶
If you prefer the terminal, log in to the access node with your user and your public key (the cluster's SSH service does not accept passwords):
ssh user@hpc.cedia.edu.ec
From there you manage your files and submit jobs to the SLURM scheduler. The quick tutorial walks you through it step by step, with copyable commands and real output.
The access node is not for computing
The login node is for access only: jobs (yours or your students') must run through SLURM. Resource-intensive processes on the access node are terminated.
4. Training and support¶
- Manuals and tutorials: from the "hello world" to multi-node jobs.
- NOC support: 07:00 to 23:00, every day, for your project.
