About CEDIA

CEDIA — the Corporación Ecuatoriana para el Desarrollo de la Investigación y la Academia (Ecuadorian Corporation for the Development of Research and Academia) — is a non-profit organization promoting research, science and academia in Ecuador, and the country's National Research and Education Network (RNIE, an NREN in international terminology).

Who we are

CEDIA began in 2002 as a consortium driven by Ecuador's leading universities and research institutes and became a corporation in 2017. It brings together more than 35 member institutions — universities, polytechnic schools, research and technology institutes — and connects researchers, faculty and students in a single science, technology and innovation ecosystem.

We are members of Red CLARA (the Latin American advanced networks cooperation, which we have been part of since 2003) and operate our own nationwide IP/MPLS network, connected to the Bella-T infrastructure that links the region with advanced networks in the north.

What we do

  • Advanced connectivity: the national academic network linking member institutions with each other and with the world.
  • Shared infrastructure: the HPC cluster documented in this portal, operated from our Data Center in Cuenca with ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification.
  • Funds and programs for research, innovation and technology transfer projects, and support for the country's universities.
  • Community: congresses, publications and collaboration spaces for rectors, research managers, faculty and students.

HPC within CEDIA

The HPC cluster is the corporation's computing infrastructure: it serves member institutions and the Ecuadorian academic community, is operated from the Cuenca Data Center with support by CEDIA's NOC, and grows according to the needs of the projects we host. Generative AI is the most recent front of that evolution.
